Windshield Repair vs. Replacement

You have a crack in your windshield and know you need windshield repair. Chances are your insurance company will recommend you to a glass shop that will tell you to have the entire window replaced. This can be costly--and unnecessary. A small crack in your windshield doesn't warrant spending hundreds of dollars in unnecessary repairs.

Instead, you can simply have windshield repair done. With windshield repair a clear adhesive resin is used to fill in the crack. When the job is completed both the clarity and strength of the window are restored. Not only can this technique save you money, it can also save you additional headaches associated with windshield replacement.

Replacing the windshield of a modern car can sometimes involve a lot more than simply replacing the glass. Many modern cars have other systems integrated into their windshield. If you have a sensor or antennae built into your windshield, these systems will also need to be replaced. This runs up the price of exterior car care and repair.

Most simple cracks, both running cracks and chips, can be fixed with windshield repair. Even if your insurance company does point you to a place that recommends complete replacement, that doesn't mean you have to do it. Under both state and federal law you have the right to choose where you have your exterior and auto interior repair done.
