Automotive Quick Tip Checking Brake Fluid
One of the important fluids to check frequently on your vehicle is the brake fluid. If you're low on brake fluid, problems in braking can result. It's easy to check and refill your brake fluid.
- Find your brake-fluid reservoir. If you're unfamiliar, your owner's manual will tell you where it's located beneath the hood.
- Before opening the reservoir, dust off the area around the cap. It's important to keep dust and contaminants from getting into the brake fluid.
- Open the reservoir and visually check the fluid level. There are high and low marks inside the tank, indicating the proper filling level. If you have to check the fluid in your master cylinder, the fluid should be about one inch from the top.
- If your brake fluid is low, add more, but remember these important tips:
- Be sure to buy the appropriate brake fluid for your vehicle.
- Avoid spilling brake fluid on your vehicle, as it will damage the paint finish.
