Automotive Quick Tip : Deflectors

  1. A deflector, which redirects wind coming at your car, reduces the number of insects that hit the windshield and also protects the car's hood from stones thrown up out of the roadway.

  2. Installation is quite simple: some deflectors attach with screws, while others are fastened to the car by means of hook-and-loop tape.

  3. Here's how to install one of the latter:

    1. First clean the front of the hood and let it dry, then test-fit the deflector to be sure it's centered, noting the location of the mounting tabs.

    2. Remove the deflector and use alcohol to clean the spots where the tabs meet the hood. Then reposition, peel the backing from the tabs and press firmly.

    3. Allow 24 hours for the adhesive to cure.
