How to clean your car
People spend more time in their cars traveling than at home, which is why, like our homes, we want our car also to be clean. Our cars should be cleaned and maintained thoroughly. Read on, to find out how you can do that at home itself.

Here are the simple steps to wash your car at home using the various car cleaning products:
- Wash: The first step to cleaning your car is to wash it thoroughly. It is better if the cleaning is done in a cool place. Initially just wash the car with water. Then use soap all over the body of the car, and scrub it with a sponge. After you have done that rinse off the soap from the cars body.
- Dry: The next step is to dry your car. This can be done using a cloth or a piece of chamois, so that all the water is absorbed and the car does not have fingerprints on the surface of the car.
- Wheels: After you complete washing the car body, move on to the wheels. There are different sprays in the market to clean the wheels of a car. Make sure that all the dirt and mud is removed from the grooves of the wheel.
- Entrance: The doors and jambs also need to be cleaned. All the plastic, metal, and the joints accumulate dust, thus wash the entrances of the car thoroughly with soap and water. There are various preservatives in the market for cleaning the plastic of the entrances. These preservatives increase the life of the plastic. Use products containing clear liquids, the milky ones could leave a white tint off the plastic.
- Hood and trunk: The trunks of a car could contain foul smell because of the things kept in it. Clean the trunks of your car regularly so that the foul smells don’t start foaming. Wash around the openings of the hood and trunk especially if you have light colored car.
- Windows: The windows need to be polished next. You can find appropriate window polishers in the market. Look out for the ones that suit your window type. Do not use polishers containing ammonia if your glasses have been tinted, this may cause the tint to turn purple.
- Wax: The basic cleaning of your car is done. Waxing can enhance the shine on your car. There are various car waxes present in the market. The best ones are those that contain carnauba.
- Carpet: Once your exterior of the car is thoroughly cleaned, washed and polished, you can move onto the interiors of the car. You can clean the carpets of the car while it is still in the car. The best way to clean the carpets is to remove the car seats and then remove the carpet for cleaning. Hang the carpet on a fence or string and spray water on it through a water hose. You could also use carpet shampoo in addition to water.
- Seats: Since you might already have removed the seats from the car, it will be easier to clean them. Remove the seat covers and wash them in the washing machine. If you have leather seat covers, use only the leather cleaning products with a scrub on the covers.
- Doors and windows: After the interiors of the car have been washed and cleaned, the last step is to clean the rubber around the doors and windows of the car. To clean the rubber, apply a little tire conditioner over the rubbers and then wipe it off. This helps in preventing the door from sticking when the weather changes.
All of the above steps might take a lot of time to complete, but if done with patience the result will give you a thoroughly cleaned car looking like you just removed it from a showroom.
